- Note: If the phone is connected to a wall charger and submerged in water, do not attempt to remove it from the water until the main power circuit breaker is switched off.
- Immediately Clean the Phone with a Dry Towel, While Also Removing the Battery Cover and Battery.
- To determine if the phone is water-damaged, check near the battery for a white square or circle, possibly with red lines. If this is pink or red, your phone has been water-damaged.
- Remove the SIM Card.
- SIM cards survive water damage well, but it’s good to remove them immediately. Pat it dry and set aside until you reconnect your phone to the network.
- Remove Ear Buds, Memory Cards, and Any Phone Cases or Protective Covers.
- Remove all plugs covering gaps, slots, and crevices to allow air-drying.
- Gently Wipe Off as Much Water as Possible Without Dropping the Phone.
- Avoid shaking or moving the phone excessively to prevent water movement.
- Use a Vacuum Cleaner to Suck Liquid from the Phone.
- Hold the vacuum over affected areas for up to 20 minutes each. Don’t hold it too close, as vacuums can create static electricity, worse than water.
- Avoid Using a Hair Dryer.
- Hair dryers may force moisture deeper. Instead, use a heater, fan, or air-flow device to aid drying.
- Put Your Phone in a Sunny Spot to Evaporate Water.
- Test Your Phone.
- After at least 24 hours, check to ensure all areas are dry. Clean dust and dirt, insert the battery, and attempt to power on the device while observing for any noises or functionality issues.
- If Necessary, Plug It into Its Charger Without the Battery.
- If the phone works, you may need a new battery.
Note: You can take your phone to an authorized dealer if needed. Be honest about the water incident, as there are internal indicators to show moisture. This can help the repair personnel assist you better.
